How did you guys meet?

Online on OkCupid. We met in person a few days later for dinner at Nortside Social in Clarendon Arlington, VA. Then we went on a 2-floor bar and got stuck in an elevator!

What is your favorite way of spending time together?

We love (and spend a LOT of time) watching The OQce reruns together. Avery also really enjoys going to David’s shows and watching him play with his 2 bands (Cosmic Romp and Higher Numbers).

What was your first impression of each other?

David: “I instantly knew she had a big heart and that she was full of empathy.” Avery: “He had the kindest eyes. He was funny and interesting, and even on our Wrst date he made me feel completely calm.”

Tell us about a favorite memory that you shared together.

One of ur favourite memories is from a few summers ago when we took a trip to the Dominican Republic. After a few years of dating, we had never been on a solo trip together. We traveled to Puerta Plata in the northern part of the country, and had to take a long (and scary) taxi ride from the airport to the resort. Once we were settled, we had an amazing time. We went snorkeling, got to take pictures with a monkey, and had some amazing dinners. We loved being able to lay and walk on the beach, relax, and hang out alone without worrying about life at home. The trip brought us even closer together.

One of David’s favorite memories is when we went into DC together to watch the Capitals win the Stanley Cup on the giant screen outside of Capital One Arena. It was a great memory for Avery too and she is thrilled that they shared something so special together.

What do you like the most about each other?

David: Avery is sweet, caring, and supportive Avery: David is supportive, passionate, and compassionate Both Avery and David have careers based in helping others. Avery is a public school teacher, and David is a social worker, serving adults with developmental disabilities. They both love and admire each other’s desire to help others and make the wold better.

If you could describe your relationship in 3 words, what would they be?

Quirky, musical, loving

3 fun and random facts:

1. We have two pets: a cat (Curzon) and a rabbit (Barry). We love them both very much but they do not really get along. Barry (the rabbit) likes to chase Curzon (the cat). 2. David is a HUGE Star Trek fan and has lots of model ships. Avery loves David’s nerdiness and has found love for Star Trek throughout their years of dating. On their wedding day, they walked out to one of the Star Trek theme songs. They were also given a painting of them in Star Trek uniforms as a gift. 3. We are both musically talented and interested in the arts. David plays guitar and plays in 2 local bands. He is self taught and often plays in bars and other local music venues. Avery plays the ukulele (casually at home 🙂 ). Avery never plays for an audience, but she played several instruments, sang in choir, and danced competitively when she was growing up, so she has a sense or rhythm and tone. She sometimes helps David Wgure out notes, which is a fun way for them to spend time together.
